As Talkin' Baby would say: New Zealand is the biscuit, and getting married is the deeeelicious gravy.

We leave in, gah, less than 48 hours. Gah.

The excitement started for-real kicking in a couple of days ago, I think. I couldn't sleep 'cause I was all worked up and excited, yet the next day, when I should have been tired and grouchy, I was hyper and even annoying myself with my chipperness. I guess this is what happens. It's very fun, but I think if this was a constant state of being it would be an interesting pastime to wonder which would happen first: My head exploding or someone knifing me in the gut. Interesting, eh?

We are very happy, and we are also very touched by everyone's good wishes and support. Shout-out to, um, everyone for putting up with our recent giddiness, probably flakiness and forgetfulness, bad correspondence, and the smell.

Not sure I'll be checking e-mail, let alone updating the ol' blog, while we're gone, but we return on Oct. 17, so be on the lookout for full updates soon after that. Be on the lookout anyway ... surprise super-extra-bonus-special blog updates are not completely out of the question.

LISTENING TO: LYLE LOVETT/My Baby Don't Tolerate, of course. I second Larry, whose observation was that this is everything you could want in a Lyle album. Therefore, you should buy it immediately. Also, I think I feel an obsession brewing with Liam Lynch, whose song "United States of Whatever" has me and Geoffrey saying "yyyyyyeah, WHATEVER!" every 5 seconds in a "it-never-stops-being-funny (but only to us)" kind of way. WHATEVER!

Oh man oh man, quite a wonderful Jayhawks and Lucinda Williams concert last night. Probably in the top 5 of best shows I've ever seen. The concert-going experience was greatly enhanced by the fact that, for the most part, we were for once NOT surround by a bunch of yappity-yaps. Everyone was pretty quiet and well behaved, so I got to spend more time listening and grooving and less time plotting violence.

And today is the debut of Lyle's first CD of new original material in seven years. It's 3 p.m., and I actually haven't bought it yet 'cause I've been stuck at work, but I plan to slink away as soon as possible and get my hands on a delicious new disc from Lyle. Of course, for a short while that will make life even harder, as my "no headphones" boss is working today, so I'll have it but won't be able to listen to it until my train ride home. It will be tough, but I'll have to live through the rest of the workday so I get my sweet listening reward at the end.

Seen today on a sign labeling a food offering in the Korean-run buffet downstairs from my office: Backed Z.T.

LISTENING TO: Nothing. Trying not to pollute my head with potentially inferior music on the holiest of holy days -- new LYLE release day!
