OK, so if all the snow and the mean people and car theives weren't proof enough that God hates this forsaken, sweet-tea-less, non-SEC land, perhaps yesterday's earthquake will convince you.
Yes, earthquake.
We had one.
In Washington, DC.
Just a wee one, mind you -- 4.5 on the Richter scale, I believe they're saying. No one hurt and no damage that I've heard of. But I felt it. I was at work and felt a weirdo rumble beneath my feet. At the time, though, I didn't think anything of it because sometimes my building just gets kinda rumbly if a big truck goes by outside, or if the mysterious office upstairs from us gets even louder and more rumbly than usual with their strange noises. The possibility of it being a friggin' earthquake didn't even cross my mind at all, seeing as how this area doesn't get earthquakes.
Ahem.
But I remembered the rumble I'd felt under my feet a few minutes afterward, when a friend who also lives here called me to ask if I'd survived the earthquake.
Two plus two equals ...
Since it's my very first ever earthquake, please bear with me as I elaborate on what it felt like. It felt like when you're at the mall, on an upper level, maybe toward the middle of the building, and the floor is kind of rumbly. Parking garages do it, too, sometimes. Some reports are saying the shaking went on for 30 to 45 seconds, but I only felt it for maybe 10. Apparently some people in some offices, especially in Richmond where they are sissies, left their office buildings all panicky. But most of us didn't even notice. Or if we did, we didn't care enough to get up and do something like panic. Kind of like when the fire alarm goes off. Maybe we'll roll our eyes, but that's about it, really.
Wooo! Earthquake! Very exciting.
LISTENING TO: JAY FARRAR/Terroir Blues. I'm borrowing this from a friend right now and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to give it back (oh, but I keed). It's SOOOO good. Maybe one of the best CDs I've heard this year. Yes, I think this is safe to say.
