HIGH-SPEED HEAVEN
Well.
It seems I have had DSL for about 4 hours and already I am addicted to iTunes. I mean, before, I just flirted with it a little. But today ... well. I have downloaded 19 songs already and, through the magic of being able to listen to previews without dial-up popping and such, have added plenty o' new bands to my list of CDs (the real kind, from stores) I want to buy. Great. Because I really needed help on that list ...
So I have a new e-mail address now -- I won't share it here so as not to help spammers or crazy stalkers -- but an e-mail is coming shortly. If you don't get this e-mail, it's probably because I'm dumb, not because I don't love you. So e-mail me at my old address and shake my tree.
Coming soon: A guest entry on my blog! Because reading me gets boring. :) I have to figure out some fancy HTML coding so I can make it look how I want, but figure it out I shall, and then you shall have some enlightenment from Carlton. Stay tuned.
LISTENING TO: Ahem: BECK, BEASTIE BOYS, FIONA APPLE, FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE (had to get the song about my mom!), TEGAN AND SARA, WEEZER, TALKING HEADS, THE CURE, THE BENS, RAYMOND W. McLAIN, JET, ROSEANNE CASH, and TODD SNIDER. Feeling mostly a little alternative today. Plus the alt. country catalog at iTunes is not as great as could be hoped. I feel confident it'll improve, though.

TAKE THE POWER BACK
I'm still somewhat undecided on the music downloading issue (iTunes and the like exempted, as it indisputably is a good thing), but I do know the mainstream label system of distributing music for sale and airplay is for sucky, sucky sucks. Here's a group trying to do something about it. Check out their little storyboard -- it's very entertaining, as well as enlightening.

I think for 2004 I will tantalize and excite you, my dear readers, with an exciting new feature on this here ol' blog. That new feature will be .... (drum roll) ..... (drum roll) ... (drum roll) ..... (drum roll) ...... (drum roll) .... a HEADLINE (or header, or title, or whatever) for each entry. This shall be in the great tradition of Larry, Marcus, Arni and others whose blogs feature headlines that make me (a) giggle and (b) know what I'm in for (except for Marcus', which serve instead to get songs stuck in my head sometimes). Also, I write headlines for a living, so being able to write them without pesky rules such as fitting in a certain space and avoiding libel will be a fun little treat for me. Because I'm dorky like that. So without further ado, I give you ...
NOW! WITH HEADLINES!*
Phew! That required me to delve deep into the archives of my HTML knowledge. I am exhausted from the effort.
But wait! There is more geekiness! Soon in the Chandler household there will be DSL. Because dial-up is for sucks. I was OK toughing it out 'til now, but now I've discovered iTunes, and I just can't handle the slowness anymore. I think the DSL is supposed to kick in next Friday -- unsure because Verizon already has proven to be evil and so they keep changing their story about the date. But soon I can send them hate mail on my super-fast Internet connection, hooray!
This also will mean, alas, the eventual demise of my newsgirl@ you-know-what address, which is kind of sad because I've had it since 1999. Which is a long time in e-mail address terms. Boo-hoo. When I have DSL, and when I have the requisite new e-mail address, I will let you (not the spammers) know.
This is a funny site if you're thirsting for a rant. But if you clicked on the "evil" link above like good little readers, you already know its awesome awesomeness.
LISTENING TO: Oh man, lots and lots. Catching up on all the new stuff amassed over Christmas and my Dec. 26 spree at Tower Records. Among them are "Will The Circle Be Unbroken, Vol. III", a tribute to the songs of the NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND; the awesome new ANI DIFRANCO CD (Which isn't out just yet. Ask me no questions.); and NEKO CASE's "Blacklisted," wooooo!
